iPod, iPod Photo lineups merged; Apple lowers price on 1GB shuffle

In yet more iPod-related news, Apple announced it was including a color screen and photo capabilities in its entire full-size line, which now comprises a 20 and 60GB version selling for $299 and $399 respectively. A Firewire cable is no longer included, but is available separately for $19. Additionally, the company lowered the price of its 1GB iPod shuffle to $129. The new players are available immediately.

I use Smart Playlists regularly, but when I go to the gym, I have a set 30 or so songs that I've placed into a Manual Playlist that I'd like to listen to at random. Backstage: Yes, the new iPod photo -is- different

Up until today, we had no reason to believe that there were differences (other than price) between the 60GB iPod photo units Apple shipped in 2004 and the ones they released in early 2005. The simplified iPod lineup features a 20GB model, holding up to 5,000 songs priced at just $299 and a 60GB model, holding up to 15,000 songs priced at $399. It will set you back $29, but I believe that it is a $29 well spent, assuming you have an iPod photo (the connector doesn't work with the other iPods).
