HDTV Broadcast

Connect an HDTV Ready!
CA

Are you getting bored with your old model of television sets? Well, here's good news for you! Try to check it out!

To improve the obsolete features of your televisions, HDTV is introduced in the market! Simply, it is the inevitable upgrade from today's analog TVs. The future format of broadcasting will be in High Definition and Digital, foreseeing that analog TV signal will be phased out.

As the technology implies, HDTV gives better screen resolution than what you used before. The evident feature of a true HDTV is the physical wide screen. As compared to your computer monitor, a HDTV screen is measured in dot pitch. A HDTV screen has more vertical and horizontal lines than an analog TV which gives it a much finer and crisper display.

The HDTV standard is about 720 (progressive) or 1080 (interlace) horizontal line of resolution. Just think of it as the SVGA display as compare to the "EGA" display of the early computer monitors. It's really different! It is because the screen format is wider, it can display a broader range of picture similar to that of a movie theater's screen. In comparison, Analog TV can only display "cropped" movies. Moreover, HDTV broadcasts will be in the Dolby surround digital format that further enhances the TV viewing experiences.

Really cool!

They are termed as the pretenders rather of the real things. These standards are temporary but necessary to ease the transition from analog to HDTV. HDTV refers to sets that are able to 1) receive digital signal, 2) display in high definition, 3) without any additional equipment.

HDTV-ready TVs are either standard or wide screens but do not have the built-in digital decoder to display high resolution. The decoders come separately.

"TV ready" means "you still need either a progressive-scan DVD player or an HDTV tuner." Connect your PC that is running Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 with high-definition TV (HDTV) tuner capability to an HDTV-ready display. You'll get a clear, high-definition TV image.

Whether you receive a standard or high-definition TV signal, connecting a Media Center PC to an HDTV-ready display often results in a higher quality TV image. However, true HDTV image quality with a Media Center PC (one that includes an HDTV-capable tuner) is possible only if you receive HDTV broadcasts through an HDTV antenna, and you view the images on an HDTV-ready display.

Both Digital Visual Interface (DVI) and High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) cables are standard digital interfaces that you can use to connect your Media Center PC to your HDTV-ready display.

On HDTV ready, it's just missing the antenna box/cable box/sat box, or in other words a tuner to pick up the HDTV/ATSC 1080i channels. The tuner is what picks up the HDTV channels. It's like your new version of rabbit ears (antenna) for the TV.

Depending on what you get, cable box, a dish, or a regular tuner, with an HDTV ready model it means you need to buy that separate which leaves you open to more options and saving money IMO.

But many TV stations are not yet broadcasting in HDTV format because it requires them to invest lots of money in new equipment to do so. They need to have enough of a market to make it worthwhile. But there are also some stations who do broadcast in HDTV and many who still just send out analog signals. However, all TV stations will have to comply with federal guidelines to be HDTV compliant within the next couple of years, so high definition TV is here to stay and will only grow in importance.
